Snowdonia Charity Trek

A dynamic duo from Print Room will be hoping not get a stitch or fold as they take on a high run of a very different kind.

Production manager Colin Jacobs and director Dave Barnett are taking on a trek to Snowdonia to support the local charity ‘Robbie the Robot Appeal’

The printing pair will be joining four other members of ‘Team Reading 107fm’ for this exciting challenge on September 4&5 to raise money for the robot which helps with prostate cancer treatment.

Colin Jacobs, 52, vice captain of the team, first learnt of this challenge in the NHS Trust newsletter. He was immediately motivated to take part for such a worthwhile cause. The Royal Berkshire Hospital needs to raise £1m over the next three years to keep Robbie the Robot in operation.

Dynamic Due: Colin and Dave

Colin returned to work and soon motivated Dave, the oldest member of the team aged 60, to join him in his mountain marathon. Colin said: “This is the first time either of us have undertaken anything as physically challenging as this. We have found the training hard but enjoyable and the team spirit has been what has kept us going. The promise of a nice cold beer at the end has also helped!”

Team Reading 107fm will be the first team out on the mountain on Saturday, September 4. The challenge is to trek over multiple peaks including Snowdon. The equivalent of a third of the height of Everest and the length of a marathon within 24 hours. Each team has to raise at least £5,000 for the charity.

Robbie the Robot is a robotic surgeon which is precise, less invasive, minimises bleeding and reduces the amount of time patients have to stay in hospital.

Print Room Vans

If something green and yellow flashes past your eyes, the chances are it's one of Print Room's new vans.

A sparkling new fleet of Peugeot Bipper vans will be keeping customers up to speed with a smooth collection and delivery service.

The eco-friendly fleet will continue to provide a first class service to clients up and down the M4 corridor after replacing the old vans which had racked up thousands of miles.

Print Room Delivery Vehicles

Jane Longmate, despatch supervisor for the digital printing experts said: “We pride ourselves on our fast and efficient service and it’s great to have the new fleet out on the road – we all think they look fantastic.

“Each van does around 25,000 miles a year as our client base stretches all the way from Lambourn in the west all the way to Gerrards Cross in the east.

“We also do regular collections and deliveries in Newbury, Thatcham, Bracknell, Slough and Windsor and of course have a massive customer base in Reading near to our Portman Road headquarters.”

Rabbits Vehicle Hire provided Print Room with transport as a stop-gap for four months before a deal was done with Lombard to provide new wheels, with a fresh new signage expertly applied to the vehicles in waterproof vinyl by Art Signs and Graphics Ltd.

Director Paul Leeke said: “We take our environmental responsibilities very seriously here at Print Room. We are ISO 14001 and 9001 certified and one of the reasons the company chose the Peugeot Bipper was because of its low CO2 emissions.”

St George's Day

ST GEORGE's DAY was warmly celebrated all across town including by three businesses offering a tasty way to show their true colours.

West Reading companies Abbey Windows and Print Room staff teamed up with Warings Bakery from 7.30am to dish out 350 St George's Day cakes in Portman Road. More than 10 colleagues took part, brightening up the morning of motorists caught in lengthy queues caused by road works in nearby Cow Lane.

Abbey Windows' managing director, Andy Young, said: "It's a great opportunity to put a smile on commuter's faces stuck in the traffic jam. We've had lots of smiles and positive comments and hopefully many more people will be doing things later to celebrate our national day."

Meanwhile, Print Room staff decked their store with flags and balloons and handed out red and white pads and pens as part of their promotion to fly the flag for England all the way to the World Cup Finals in South Africa in June.

Director Paul Leeke said: "It was great to be able to do something special on St George's Day and the response from everyone was tremendous. People were tooting their horns as they went past our offices and generally getting into the spirit of things."
